Case filed over an attempt to shoot the top officials of Exim Bank
Exim Bank authorities have filed a case with Gulshan Police Station against the Managing Director of the Sikder Group of Companies for allegedly torturing and trying to shoot two senior bank officials.
The accused are Sikder Group MD Ron Haque Sikder and his brother Dipu Haque Sikder.
The case was brought on 19 May, said SM Kamruzzaman, the officer in charge of the Gulshan Police Station.
According to the case, on 7 May, Ron and Dipu held Exim Bank MD Muhammad Haider Ali Mia and additional MD Muhammad Firoz Hossain hostage in an apartment and tried to shoot them. They also tortured the two Exim Bank officials and let them go on a blank page after their signatures, the OC said
The incident occurred when the two officials visited the mortgaged properties of the company, which they provided as collateral for the Tk 500 Crore loan they demanded from the bank, the OC said citing the case statement.
Bank officials cited the worth of the asset as smaller than the group’s MD reported, and then pushed into an apartment where they were tortured and shot, threatened with death, and eventually let go after signing on a blank page, OC Kamruzzaman
The accused in the case, Ron Haque and Dipu Haque, were absconding after the accident, he said.
