Local government has locked down five houses in Jashore district’s Chowgaccha upazila after a teenage girl was admitted to Jashore Medical College Hospital on Sunday night with symptoms of coronavirus.
A team headed by an officer from Upazila nirbahi Jahidul Islam locked up the houses at night.
The girl was admitted to hospital about 8:20 pm, according to hospital sources, and was later transferred to the isolation unit.
The Upazila health and family planning officer, Physician Lutfunnahar, said the girl’s sample was sent to Dhaka for examination.
In the last two days, no new patient has tested positive for COVID-19 in the region, holding the total number of reported cases at 48.
Bangladesh has reported five fatalities so far. The global death toll from the virus rose Monday morning to 33,965 — an 18 percent mortality rate.
Bangladesh has shut down educational institutions and public transport and has advised people to stay indoors to avoid spreading the virus.
